Dave Horwich Joins Civitas As Principal, Firm To Open Chicago Office

CHICAGO – Civitas Public Affairs Group announced that Dave Horwich is joining the firm as a principal and launching its new Chicago office. Civitas specializes in delivering winning advocacy and bipartisan public affairs campaigns to its clients and the people they serve.

Dave comes to Civitas from Newsweb Corporation where he served as vice president and advised Newsweb Chairman Fred Eychaner on a variety of endeavors. He played an instrumental role in the passage of Illinois’ marriage equality law, managed the design and construction of a newspaper production facility, and oversaw multiple initiatives of the Alphawood Foundation, a Chicago-based private foundation founded and chaired by Eychaner. In addition, for the last 12 years, Dave has served as a lead advance representative for President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Foundation – a role he continues to play. Dave has coordinated visits of President Clinton domestically and in Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Norway, Rwanda, South Korea, Spain, Tanzania, and the United Arab Emirates. Dave served as co-founder and president of an award-winning high-tech company, managed a winning state senate race, and served in the White House Office of Scheduling and Advance for Vice President Al Gore. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, Dave and his wife Tracey live in Highland Park, Illinois, and have two children, Joshua and Ethan.

“Dave is a well-respected leader, campaign strategist and trusted donor adviser,” said Civitas Founding Partner Patrick Guerriero. “Dave’s work ethic, personal integrity, and constant professionalism are recognized by progressive leaders and prominent organizations across the nation. He will be a great addition to our bipartisan team and we know our new Midwest office is in very capable hands.”

“Over the last eight years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work for and with Fred Eychaner on a variety of political, philanthropic, and business activities,” said Horwich. “I’m pleased to be able to continue working on meaningful projects that are both fulfilling to me personally and create positive change in our communities. Having respected the work of Bill Smith and Patrick Guerriero for years, I’m thrilled to be expanding the Civitas platform into the Midwest.”

“Civitas helps good people solve big problems, and Dave’s real-world experience in solving big problems fits perfectly into our growing team,” said Civitas Founding Partner Bill Smith. “We’re excited to have him on board.”

“I’ve known Dave through his work on behalf of President Clinton and he is a true professional,” said Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe. “I know that he will carry his skills and grace to his next endeavor.”

“Dave Horwich is one of the smartest, most strategic thinkers I know, so for him to join a group like Civitas is a natural next step,” said EMILY’s List President Stephanie Schriock. “He has proven himself time and time again throughout his career and Civitas is lucky to have him join the team.”

“Dave is a skilled strategist who is focused on outcomes,” said Jon Carson, Executive Director of Organizing for Action and former White House Director of Public Engagement. “I saw that first hand during last year’s battle to bring marriage equality to Illinois.”

“Dave is a good friend and we share a strong commitment to social justice, equality for all, and advocacy work that improves the lives of people in Illinois and around the country,” said philanthropist and co-owner of the Chicago Cubs Laura Ricketts. “I look forward to seeing Dave continue his positive contributions in Chicago and the Midwest as part of the Civitas team.”

“Having known both Dave and the Civitas team for several years, this is an exciting development,” said National Education Association Executive Director and Democracy Alliance Board Chair John Stocks. “Dave’s skills and experience will greatly complement the fantastic Civitas team.”
