Jamal Brown joins Civitas as Senior Associate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Civitas Public Affairs Group announced today that Jamal Brown will be joining the firm as a senior associate on January 3, 2017.

“We have followed Jamal’s career over the years and have been continuously impressed,” said Civitas founding partners Patrick Guerriero and Bill Smith. “Jamal will be a terrific asset in developing effective communications strategies for our clients and the communities they serve.”

Most recently, Jamal served as the Press Secretary for the White House Office of Management and Budget under the Obama Administration where he led communications campaigns on a wide range of Administration priorities, including economic growth, technology, and cybersecurity. He has secured coverage in all major news outlets, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, CNN, ABC World News, Fast Company, WIRED Magazine, and more.

“As technology has rapidly evolved over the past few years, we’ve needed to similarly advance our thinking in how we address today’s growing cybersecurity challenges. Jamal’s analytical foresight and breadth of experience led him to serve as a key architect in our communications response and overall strategy to enhance Federal cybersecurity.” - Tony Scott, U.S. Chief Information Officer under the Obama Administration.

“Civitas delivers strategic, common-sense campaigns that promote access, equality, and opportunity for everyday people.” said Brown. “And that’s exactly what’s critically needed today. I have seen Civitas grow and foster meaningful impact over the years, so I am thrilled to join my friends Patrick Guerriero and Bill Smith and the Civitas team to execute innovative solutions on issues that impact millions of people across the country and around the world.”

Prior to the White House, Jamal worked at GLAD and served on the board of directors of MassEquality. In 2008, OUT Magazine named Jamal one of the 100 most influential LGBT Americans. Jamal is a graduate of Dartmouth College with a bachelor of arts in government and women’s & gender studies.
