Celine Mizrahi Joins Civitas As Principal
NEW YORK — Civitas Public Affairs Group announced today that Celine Mizrahi, whose impressive career includes advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels of government, is joining the firm as a Principal. She will be based in Civitas’ New York City office.
“I have had the privilege of working with Celine throughout her career. Watching her deliver win after win over the years has been both exciting and inspiring. I am thrilled that she has chosen to bring her skills to Civitas and our clients,” said Katherine Grainger, Partner at Civitas.
Celine’s experience spans work in the government, nonprofit, and private sectors, with particular expertise at the federal level, serving as a senior staff member for Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY), who chairs the U.S. House Judiciary Committee.
“Throughout my time in the economic and reproductive justice movements and in government, I have seen first-hand the repeated successes that Civitas delivers for its clients. Civitas touches nearly every major political and social issue facing our nation today and brings excellence to every project. I’m thrilled to be joining a team that is as passionate about creating a better future as I am,” said Celine.
Celine’s extensive background includes work at the intersection of national politics, policy, and organizing. During her time with Chairman Nadler—whom she served in various capacities for over a decade, including as Manhattan Director, Director of Community Relations, and Political Director—Celine managed complex policy campaigns and built grassroots and advocacy coalitions to advance numerous progressive issues. This work included efforts to protect democracy and the right to vote, strengthen gun laws, and help workers and consumers.
Before her time with Chairman Nadler, Celine served as Legislative Counsel for the Center for Reproductive Rights, where she managed the organization’s state and federal legislative efforts and worked with grassroots networks nationwide to protect and advance reproductive justice. She began her career fighting for economic justice in New York City, working directly with impacted communities and low-income New Yorkers to find sustainable jobs and get support.
Most recently, she served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Initiatives for New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. In this role, she helped shape the Council’s groundbreaking responses to the economic, racial, and health care inequities that were revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic across New York City.
“Celine Mizrahi is exceptionally talented and has the policy expertise and political know-how to create positive change. Her career is marked by a wide array of successes in government and issue advocacy, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Celine to the Civitas team,” said Bill Smith and Patrick Guerriero, Founding Partners at Civitas.
A first generation American and graduate of Yale University and the New York University School of Law, Celine lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and two young sons. Outside of work, Celine is an active member of her local community. She enjoys spending time with her large extended family and taking advantage of all New York City has to offer, including its fantastic parks and underrated beaches.
New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson:
“Celine brings tremendous insight, intelligence and dedication to her work. Her ability to quickly understand the issues at stake and work across communities to move policy has been invaluable to the elected leaders and stakeholders she’s worked with throughout her career. I’m grateful to have had her on my team at the New York City Council–she hit the ground running during a time of unprecedented crisis in New York–and I know she will do the same for her clients at Civitas.”
