Nick Magrisso Joins Civitas
CHICAGO, IL – Civitas Public Affairs Group announced today that Nick Magrisso will be joining the firm’s Chicago office as an associate on January 23, 2017.
“Nick has a proven track record of knowing what it takes to get impactful legislation passed into law,” said Civitas principal and Chicago office director Dave Horwich. “Considering Civitas’ extensive work in the states, Nick’s on-the-ground advocacy and policy experience will be a great asset to our clients’ legislative efforts across the country.”
For the last six years, Nick has worked for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), where he most recently served as the Midwest Legislative Director. An expert on environmental and energy-related policies, Nick led NRDC’s legislative strategy surrounding the recently passed Future Energy Jobs Bill in Illinois, landmark climate legislation that is widely considered one of the top climate and clean energy laws in the country. The legislation is expected to jumpstart the state’s long dormant renewable energy industry. In addition to serving as NRDC’s primary advocate in Illinois, Nick has also led coalition building efforts with other environmental organizations, business leaders, consumer protection groups, and other key stakeholders across the Midwest, advised on communications strategy, and assisted in policy development.
“Joining Civitas provides a unique opportunity to continue my work advocating for the public interest and advancing forward looking policies to help secure a more just world for all,” said Magrisso. “I look forward to partnering with the firm’s clients and using my skills and experience to implement smart, effective campaigns that deliver meaningful results to those most in need.“
“Nick has been an invaluable part of the NRDC family, working his way up from an intern to our Midwest Legislative Director. He has earned the respect of those with whom he has worked at each step of his career with his dedication, work ethic, problem solving, and creativity,” said Henry Henderson, Director of the Midwest Program for NRDC. “While we will miss him, we know he will continue contributing to the greater good at Civitas.”
“Over the last six years I’ve watched Nick grow into a tenacious and well-regarded advocate,” said Illinois House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie. “He’s been able to navigate complicated politics under unprecedented challenges to advance much-needed environment, public health, and climate protections on behalf of Illinois citizens. I know he will make important contributions for us all in his new role at Civitas.”
