Ana Guerrero is a seasoned political and organizational strategist with more than 30 years of experience in running organizations, leading campaigns, building coalitions, and advancing transformative public policy. She has worked at the highest levels of government, advocacy, and civic leadership, shaping some of Los Angeles’ most consequential policies.
Prior to joining Civitas, Guerrero served as Chief of Staff to former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti from 2013 to 2021, overseeing a $50 million annual budget and managing a staff of over 250. She was the architect behind the administration’s strategic direction, delivering historic policy victories. As Chief of Staff, Guerrero managed efforts to lift the minimum wage to $15 an hour, fund an historic expansion of public transportation, guarantee high school graduates free community college tuition, secure the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, mobilize the city's COVID response in 2020, and bring gender equity to City Hall's powerful boards and commissions for the first time in history.
Before her tenure in the Mayor’s Office, Guerrero was Chief of Staff to Garcetti’s City Council office from 2008 to 2013, helping lead the legislative branch of city government while he was Council President. She previously spent a decade as a community organizer, beginning in 1990 with the Sonoma County Faith-Based Community Organizing Project and later as Lead Organizer for the United Neighborhoods Organization (UNO) in Los Angeles, where she helped naturalize over 5,000 immigrants and activate them as civic leaders.
Guerrero, an immigrant from Mexico and the daughter of farmworkers, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Antioch College and an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of La Verne. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Holocaust Museum and advisory boards for the Los Angeles CleanTech Incubator and Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy (LAANE). She is also a Co-Founder of the Latino Prosperity Fund.
She lives in La Crescenta, California, with her husband and is the proud mother of three adult children and a labrador mix named Dulce de Leche.
